In 1990, Nigel co-founded Supercreche Ltd which developed 64 state-of-the-art childcare facilities within retail superstores in the UK. The business was successfully sold to Safeway plc in 1994. Nigel was also a founding director and investor of Seattle Coffee Company, which was sold to Starbucks in 1998.

As founder and Chairman of Grosvenor House Group PLC, Nigel has helped to build one of the leading providers of serviced accommodation in the UK, with a focus on the highly specialized field of public-private partnership in healthcare, student accommodation and related sectors. In 1986, Nigel founded Grosvenor House Nursing Homes Ltd and under his leadership this company developed, operated and successfully sold 10 healthcare facilities in the UK.
